Walnuts “Half”
Description
1. How it is grown and harvested: Central Asia is part of the natural homeland of the walnut, and wild walnut forests still grow in the mountains of the region. Hot summers, cool nights and clean mountain water help the nuts develop full, well-filled kernels with a rich flavour and a high content of healthy oils. Walnut halves are produced from carefully selected walnuts grown in Uzbekistan and harvested at full maturity in autumn. After hulling and natural drying, the nuts are cracked gently so that the kernel can be removed in two intact halves, the classic “butterfly” shape that buyers value for appearance. The walnut is one of Uzbekistan’s most important traditional nut crops, and the country’s mountain walnut forests are among the oldest in the world. Producing intact halves requires careful cracking and hand extraction, which is why halves are considered a premium grade.
2. Processing and packaging details: The halves are separated from broken pieces, sorted by colour, cleaned of shell fragments and membranes, and inspected for quality. They are packed in food-grade, moisture-resistant packaging inside export cartons to protect both their shape and their delicate oils. Walnuts are rich in delicate oils, so they should be stored cool (ideally 0–10 °C) and dry, away from light and strong odours. In-shell walnuts keep their quality for up to 12 months; kernels are best stored refrigerated and used within 6–12 months. Each lot can be supplied with export documentation, including a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, on request.
3. Health benefits and nutrition: Walnut halves provide plant omega-3 fatty acids, unsaturated fats, protein, fibre, magnesium, copper and vitamin E, along with antioxidant polyphenols, contributing to a balanced, heart-friendly diet. Contains tree nuts. Their attractive shape makes them ideal for healthy snacking: two or three halves with dried fruit make a balanced, satisfying snack. Halves are also easy to portion and portion-control. Walnut halves are ideal for premium retail packs, decoration of cakes and desserts, confectionery (such as stuffed prunes and dates), salads, cheese boards and snacks. Their perfect shape also makes them ideal for caramelised and honey-coated walnuts and festive gift packaging.
