Description

1. How it is grown and harvested: Plum growing has a long history in the orchards of Uzbekistan, where fertile soils, mountain irrigation water and long, sunny summers allow plums to ripen fully on the tree. Fully ripe fruit is essential for good prunes: it gives a high natural sugar content, so the prunes are sweet and soft without any added sugar. Vengerka (Hungarian plum) is a traditional oval plum variety valued throughout the region for its dense flesh and balanced flavour. It is grown in Uzbekistan’s orchards, harvested by hand at full ripeness and dried slowly under controlled conditions. Vengerka produces neat, uniform prunes with firm, elastic flesh and a pleasant sweet-and-sour taste. Vengerka has been grown in the region for many decades and is valued both for fresh eating and for drying. Its fruit has a dark blue skin with a light bloom, golden-green flesh and a stone that separates easily, which makes it particularly well suited to pitting.

2. Processing and packaging details: The dried prunes are pitted, cleaned, inspected and sorted by size and quality. Stone fragments, defects and foreign matter are removed. The product is packed in food-grade liners inside export cartons to keep it soft, clean and fresh throughout transport and storage. Store prunes in a cool, dry place (ideally 5–15 °C), away from direct sunlight, in closed packaging so they keep their natural moisture and softness. Under proper conditions the product keeps its quality for 12 months or more. Each lot can be supplied with export documentation, including a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, on request.

3. Health benefits and nutrition: Vengerka prunes are a natural source of dietary fibre and sorbitol, which support regular digestion, as well as potassium, vitamin K, iron and antioxidant polyphenols. They are a healthy, naturally sweet snack and cooking ingredient. Their balanced taste and firm texture make Vengerka prunes pleasant to eat on their own, and they combine well with walnuts, cheese and dark chocolate. Prunes are naturally fat-free and suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets, and a few prunes a day are an easy way to add fibre to the diet. Vengerka prunes are a favourite for confectionery (chocolate-covered prunes, prunes with walnuts), baking, salads, meat dishes and sauces, as well as for snacking and retail packs.
