Prunes “Ispanka pitted”
Description
1. How it is grown and harvested: Plum growing has a long history in the orchards of Uzbekistan, where fertile soils, mountain irrigation water and long, sunny summers allow plums to ripen fully on the tree. Fully ripe fruit is essential for good prunes: it gives a high natural sugar content, so the prunes are sweet and soft without any added sugar. Ispanka is a large, dark-skinned plum variety grown in the orchards of Uzbekistan, where hot summers and abundant sunshine give the fruit high sugar content. The plums are left to ripen fully on the tree until they reach deep colour and maximum sweetness, then harvested by hand. They are washed and dried under controlled conditions, which slowly transforms the fresh plums into soft, glossy black prunes with a rich, sweet, slightly smoky flavour. Drying is carried out slowly so that the fruit does not burn on the outside while staying wet inside; this careful process gives Ispanka prunes their even, glossy appearance and soft texture throughout.
2. Processing and packaging details: After drying, the stones are removed and the prunes are cleaned, inspected and sorted by size and quality. Pieces with stone fragments, defects or foreign matter are removed. The prunes are packed in food-grade liners inside export cartons that keep them moist, soft and clean during storage and shipping. Store prunes in a cool, dry place (ideally 5–15 °C), away from direct sunlight, in closed packaging so they keep their natural moisture and softness. Under proper conditions the product keeps its quality for 12 months or more. Each lot can be supplied with export documentation, including a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, on request.
3. Health benefits and nutrition: Prunes are well known for supporting healthy digestion: they contain dietary fibre and natural sorbitol, which help maintain regular bowel function. They also provide potassium, vitamin K, which contributes to normal bone health, and antioxidant polyphenols. With their natural sweetness, prunes are a nourishing alternative to sugary snacks. Ispanka pitted prunes are excellent as a ready-to-eat snack, in breakfast cereals, porridge and yoghurt, and in baking, desserts and compotes. They are also a classic ingredient in meat dishes, salads, stuffings and sauces, and are popular for chocolate-coated and nut-stuffed confectionery.
