Description

1. How it is grown and harvested: Peanuts have become an important crop for farmers in Uzbekistan, especially in the Fergana Valley and the southern regions, where long, hot summers and light irrigated soils provide the conditions that the crop needs. Peanuts are grown in the warm, irrigated fields of Uzbekistan. The plants flower above ground and develop their pods below the soil. In autumn, the plants are lifted, the pods are left to dry naturally in the field and then removed and dried further to safe storage moisture. Uzbekistan’s hot summers and irrigated sandy-loam soils are well suited to peanut growing, producing well-filled pods with sweet kernels.

2. Processing and packaging details: The pods are cleaned of soil, stems and debris, sorted to remove empty, damaged or discoloured pods and foreign matter, and packed in breathable export bags that keep them dry. Each lot is checked for kernel fill and moisture before packing. Peanuts must be kept dry and cool (ideally below 15 °C, relative humidity below 65%) to protect quality and prevent spoilage. In-shell peanuts keep their quality for up to 12 months; kernels are best used within 6–12 months in closed packaging. Each lot can be supplied with export documentation, including a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, on request.

3. Health benefits and nutrition: Peanuts are a rich source of plant protein and also provide healthy fats, dietary fibre, niacin (vitamin B3), vitamin E, folate and magnesium. Peanuts are a major allergen. Their protein and healthy fats make peanuts a filling, energy-dense food; a moderate handful is a good snack between meals. Raw peanuts in shell are used for home or industrial roasting, for markets and retail, and as a traditional snack. Raw in-shell peanuts can be roasted at home in the oven or in a dry pan for fresh, aromatic nuts, and are supplied to roasting and snack companies. Many customers prefer to buy peanuts in the shell because the shell protects the kernel and keeps it fresh for longer.
