Description

1. How it is grown and harvested: Almonds have been cultivated in Central Asia since ancient times, and wild almond species still grow on the region’s mountain slopes. Long, hot, dry summers, mild winters and well-drained stony soils are ideal for almond trees, and they give the nuts a sweet, concentrated flavour. Our almond kernels come from almonds grown in Uzbekistan’s sunny orchards and harvested in late summer. After hulling and natural drying, the nuts are cracked and the kernels are separated from the shells. The kernels keep their natural brown skin, which protects their freshness and flavour. Uzbekistan’s almond orchards are found mainly in the foothill regions and the Fergana Valley, where hot, dry summers and well-drained soils suit the trees. The kernels are cracked from well-dried nuts so that they keep their shape and crispness, and they have a sweet, mild almond flavour.

2. Processing and packaging details: The kernels are cleaned, sorted by size and inspected to remove shell fragments, broken or damaged kernels and foreign matter. They are packed in food-grade, moisture-resistant packaging inside export cartons and should be stored cool and dry. Store almonds in a cool, dry place (ideally below 15 °C), away from light and strong odours. In-shell almonds keep their quality for up to 12–18 months; kernels for around 12 months in closed packaging. Each lot can be supplied with export documentation, including a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, on request.

3. Health benefits and nutrition: Almond kernels are rich in vitamin E, magnesium, calcium, plant protein, dietary fibre and monounsaturated fats. The skin contains flavonoids with antioxidant properties. Contains tree nuts. Almonds are associated with a heart-friendly diet, and their combination of protein, fibre and healthy fats gives lasting energy and helps keep you full between meals. A small handful a day is a simple way to add vitamin E and magnesium to a balanced diet. Almond kernels are used for snacking, roasting and salting, in baking, confectionery, chocolate, muesli and granola, nut butters and almond drinks.
