Description

1. How it is grown and harvested: Alanga rice is grown in the irrigated paddies of Uzbekistan, planted in spring and harvested in autumn when the grains are fully mature. After threshing, the paddy is dried to the correct moisture level. The irrigated rice paddies of Uzbekistan, fed by water from the mountain rivers, provide the warm, sunny conditions that rice needs to ripen. Rice has been grown in the river valleys of Uzbekistan for many centuries, and local varieties are valued for their taste and cooking quality. The rice is planted in spring in flooded paddies and grows throughout the hot summer, when long sunny days help the grain fill and ripen evenly. In autumn the crop is harvested, threshed and carefully dried to the right moisture level so that the grain keeps well and cooks evenly.

2. Processing and packaging details: The rice is hulled, milled, cleaned and sorted to remove broken grains and foreign matter, then packed in 0.9 kg retail packs. Packaging protects the rice from moisture and dust during storage and transport, and the rice should be kept in a dry, cool place. Each lot is checked for moisture, grain size and the share of broken grains before packing. Store in a dry, cool place in closed packaging, away from moisture and strong odours. Under these conditions rice keeps its quality for 12–18 months.

3. Health benefits and nutrition: Alanga rice is a naturally gluten-free source of carbohydrates and provides small amounts of protein, B vitamins and minerals. It is easy to digest and suitable for all ages, and it combines well with vegetables, meat and pulses for balanced meals. Alanga rice is suitable for plov, side dishes, soups and other rice dishes. Rinse the rice several times before cooking until the water runs clear, and soak it briefly for a more even texture. It is also good for soups, rice porridge and stuffed vegetables, and it is an affordable everyday rice for families and catering.
